GST Registration Documents for Proprietor

  • Aadhar Card: Aadhar card will be required in many other applications as well. If you still don’t have one, you should immediately contact your nearest Aadhar Seva Kendra or E-Mitra.  After application, you will receive your Aadhar number and card via post within 15-25 days.
  • PAN Card: Not only for GST registration but filing your GST without a PAN number is impossible. Just like an income tax return filing will require your PAN details, filing for GST requires PAN too. In case you don’t have a PAN yet, you can easily apply for it online. You will be asked for photographs, identity proof, and address proof for PAN registration.
  • Passport-Sized Photograph: A passport-sized photograph of the sole owner of the business is required as proof.
  • Electricity Bill / Property Tax Receipt/ Legal Ownership Document of Principal Place of Business: Any of the proof mentioned above will be required for the proof of business place. This place is where a taxpayer’s business is performed, or simply the place where books of accounts and records are available.
  • Rent Agreement or Non-objection Certificate (If Not Owned): If the place where your business or office exists is not your property, then you will be required to provide a rent agreement or Non-Objection Certificate.

What Is the GST Registration Process for Proprietorship?

GST registration for proprietorship doesn’t follow a whole different process than other business GST registration. Here’s a step-by-step guide and process to applying for GST registration

  1. TRN Generation

The first step is to generate TRN, which you can begin by visiting www. reg.gst.gov.in/registration and then entering the basic details on the right parts. After completing this part, you can move ahead to receive an OTP on your mobile no. or your email id. The next part is to verify your OTP

2. Open the Registration Application

The first step includes opening the registration application, and which can be saved in a draft. But after you come out of the registration application, you will have to provide OTP to enter the application again.

Now, you have to enter the application again for the second step through the link provided in the first step. Select the TRN option and enter the TRN and Captcha code. Proceed through the application

3. Filling up the application

You will find many tabs that are mandatory to be filled. Here’s what you will find:

  • Tab 1: You will be asked to enter your business details.
  • Tab 2: You will have to enter the proprietor details, including personal and id information, residential address, photo, etc.
  • Tab 3: This part doesn’t require you to enter any details but to click on the option provided. This click means you are declaring the proprietor as an authorised signatory.
  • Tab 5: Here, you will be asked to enter the details about the principal place of business. You can enter and attach the electricity bill as an address proof and ownership proof.
  • Tab 7: This tab is the Goods and Services tab, and you will be asked to enter the HNS code of the Goods or SAC code Services.
  • Tab 9: This tab includes your Aadhar authentication, where you can choose Yes for opting for Aadhar authentication.
  • Tab 10: The last tab is the verification. You can click on the verification box. Click on the authorised signatory and after entering the place, click on Submit with EVC. You will receive the EVC code on your phone, and then you can enter EVC Code.

Aadhar Authentication

After submission of the application, you should complete the Aadhar authentication as your application is considered submitted only after the Aadhar authentication.

How Do You Do Aadhar Authentication?

You will already get a link for the Aadhar authentication after you have submitted your application. Click on the link, which will ask for your Aadhar number. After providing the Aadhar number, you can click on Proceed to generate the Aadhar OTP and enter the OTP you receive on your mobile number. Finally, click on Submit.

ARN Number

After the completion and submission of your Aadhar authentication, you will receive an ARN number. You receive an ARN number when your application reaches the tax authorities for the verification process.

How Long Does It Take for Your to Get Your GST Certificate?

Getting your GST certificate doesn’t take long after you have received your ARN number. It will probably take one working day, considering all the details you provided are proven to be correct and without any errors.

You will require to enter your bank details and make some changes in the login credentials to download your GST certificate.
